Directed by Malcolm Venville, Henry’s Crime was released in 2011. The movie features Keanu Reeves, who plays the character of Henry in the movie, while other cast members include Vera Farmiga and James Caan. The script of the movie is written by Stephen Hamel, Sacha Gervasi and David White. The movie’s plot revolves around Henry being sent to prison to serve a time for a robbery he did not even commit. Once he is out, he decides to commit the heist he was sent to serve time for in prison.
In Henry’s Crime, you’ll notice the first part of the movie is interesting… rather it is okay but in the second part, you’ll notice how many strings are left untied. The movie starts off with how Henry is a person who is completely devoid of emotions, has no ambitions and is doing is daily work without any regrets or happiness. Henry is a toll collector at a freeway in New York. He is fooled into driving a car that is used as a getaway car for a bank crime. Once the robbery is busted, however, Henry a.k.a Keanu Reeves is sent to prison.
Next, Henry’s Crime shows how Keanu Reeves befriends James Caan in the prison, who plays Max in the movie. After Max’s arrival in the movie, the friendship of two is shown in the movie and once the prison time is over, Henry gets out and decides to commit the robbery he was sent to serve the time for in jail since he was already served the time for it, even when he previously didn’t even commit the robbery. Max comes out of poisoned and as he is newly paroled, Henry decides to include him in the robbery as well.
Henry’s Crime goes on for a good 108 minutes. When the robbery is decided by Henry, it is the second part of the movie. Henry plots to access the bank through the basement, which he decides to reach from a tunnel that is rather very old. However, to access the dressing room in the tunnel, Henry must become part of the Cherry Orchards cast, and that is when things change as while he plays the role of a cast member, he falls in love with Julie, that is played by Vera Farmiga.
The love of the two in endangers the robbery. There are many things people won’t be able to make sense out of in the movie. Since it is a robbery/crime movie, the director should have focused on the robbery but rather than doing that, he leaves many strings untied in Henry’s Crime. The latter part of the movie rather focuses on the love between Vera and Keanu. There are things you wait for to happen or see in the movie but they never come! Though it is pleasing to see James Caan and Vera Farmiga in the movie, I’ll reserve my comments for Keanu Reeves… but wait for him to surprise you in some instances in the movie.
